Physiotherapy is for people of all ages who, as a result of a physical condition or limitation, experience problems performing daily activities. The physiotherapists at SMC Rijnland examine, treat, advise, and guide individuals with posture and/or movement disorders. 

When is physiotherapy needed? 

Physiotherapy can be applied to conditions or injuries affecting muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. consequences of functional disorders of the nervous system, blood vessels, lungs, heart, and skin can be treated. Many complaints in the musculoskeletal system can be positively influenced by the physiotherapist. 

Physical complaints

The complaints that patients present to the physiotherapist can vary widely: pain, reduced strength, stability problems, breathing problems, swelling or movement restrictions The conditions can be chronic in nature, such as with COPD or may have arisen during sports, work, due to aging or as a result of an accident

Exercise therapy 

Exercise therapy is intended to influence the range of motion of joints and increase muscle strength. It also assists in learning better posture and achieving better balance. It can also be used to learn better breathing techniques or to relax. Within SMC Rijnland , one or more exercise rooms are set up with special equipment at the various locations to achieve this goal.   

Preventative treatment

In addition to treating complaints, the physiotherapist also pays a lot of attention and care to injury prevention. This reduces the risk for patients to be repeatedly confronted with the same problems.  

Certified Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a protected profession. This means that someone can only call themselves a physiotherapist if, in addition to successfully completing a 4-year-HBO study in physiotherapy, they also have  a BIG registration and continue to follow the mandatory further training and refresher courses.
