In ultrasound, sound waves are transmitted into the body using an ultrasound probe (transducer).

Ultrasound Images

For optimal transmission of the sound waves, gel is applied between the transducer and the skin. The sound waves are partially absorbed and partially reflected by the different body tissues. The reflected sound waves are converted into images by the ultrasound device, which you can see on the screen. The image mainly consists of shades of gray, depending on the strength of the reflection.

Ultrasound Examination

Our physiotherapist is specially trained to interpret the ultrasound image. The assessment of the ultrasound examination takes place directly during the consultation. You can usually watch the screen as the scan is being performed. If your therapist deems it necessary, they will refer you to your general practitioner or specialist. An ultrasound examination typically lasts between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on the area being examined.

Benefits of ultrasound by a physiotherapist

Ultrasound examination is safe, easy, and painless. Ultrasound can be performed dynamically, allowing for assessment during (painful) movement. It is a quick way to visualize the nature and cause of the complaint, enabling immediate treatment initiation. If additional ultrasound examination is desirable for your condition, it saves you time and hassle to have it done directly by your physiotherapist. The outcome of the ultrasound examination can assist your therapist in establishing an accurate working diagnosis. This working diagnosis forms the basis of your personalized treatment plan.
• The examination can be easily repeated.
• The therapist determines the depth and extent of the anomaly to optimize shockwave therapy settings. • An ultrasound examination can also be conducted during the treatment series to evaluate the progress of recovery.
• If deemed necessary or desirable by your therapist, he can refer you specifically to a doctor or specialist based on the ultrasound findings.

Tendon injuries

If you experience tendon problems or need an ultrasound for an muscle or ligament injury our experienced therapist can make an ultrasound scan with our modern equipment.

For tendon injuries we can treat you with Shockwave therapy (ESWT) or Percutaneous Electrolysis (PNE/EPTE/EPI) and follow these regenerative therapies up with exercises. Flywheel training is ideal for muscle and tendon injuries.
